Word of the Week: Spacious

Welcome to your new Sunday ritual, where we dive into one word that will guide and inspire us throughout the upcoming week.

Every Sunday, we’ll pick a word—a concept, an idea, a feeling—that can set the tone for how we approach the week ahead. Whether it's something we want to cultivate, focus on, or simply remind ourselves of, this word will be our intention for the week.

This week, we’re embracing the word SPACIOUS. We’re diving into the idea of mental, emotional, and energetic spaciousness. It’s about creating room for what matters in your life, despite the never-ending demands of work, family, social media, and everything in between.

The image of the girl is a video that I posted on Insta (for some reason I couldn't post this video to our website - BAH!). But I love the expression on her face as she has no time for foolishness and says “no” with a simple wave of her finger.

What Does "Spacious" Really Mean?

According to the dictionary, spacious means “having ample space; roomy; providing a sense of freedom or room to move.”

But when we apply it to life, it’s about creating mental and emotional space for yourself. It’s about shifting from a state of feeling rushed and overwhelmed to one of calm and clarity. It’s allowing yourself to breathe, to say "no" without guilt, and to make choices that align with your true values instead of constantly responding to the noise of the world around you.

Why Spaciousness Matters

In a world where we’re often overscheduled, overcommunicated with, and constantly bombarded by new information, it can feel impossible to carve out any space for ourselves. We get caught in the whirlwind of keeping up with expectations—both our own and others’—and forget that life is not about perfection or doing it all.

Spaciousness, then, becomes a powerful tool in reclaiming balance.

It’s not about having all the answers or magically making life easier, but rather creating more room for what truly matters. It’s about clearing the clutter—mentally and physically—to prioritize what nourishes you.

How to Cultivate Spaciousness in Your Life

Weed Out What’s Not Serving You

We all have a tendency to hold onto things that no longer serve us—whether that’s habits, commitments, or even relationships. If something drains you, doesn’t align with your values, or simply doesn’t bring you joy, it’s okay to let it go. Being spacious means you can make intentional decisions to release the things that hold you back. It’s not about being ruthless or harsh, but about prioritizing your well-being.

Say "No" More Often (Without Guilt)

You don’t have to say yes to everything. We often fall into people-pleasing patterns, trying to accommodate everyone else at the expense of our own needs. But here's the truth: your time is precious. Setting boundaries is an act of self-respect and makes room for the things that truly matter.

Practice saying "no" with grace—and without apology. You’ll be amazed at how much more spacious you’ll feel when you stop overcommitting yourself.

Align Your Choices with Your Values

Spaciousness doesn’t just come from external decluttering—it also comes from being clear on what’s most important to you. Take a moment to reflect on your values: What do you really want to prioritize? When you make choices that align with those values, it becomes much easier to create space for the people, projects, and practices that light you up. Whether it's making time for self-care, investing in meaningful relationships, or focusing on your career goals, choosing what aligns with your deeper purpose helps you feel more grounded.

Unplug and Give Yourself Mental Space

Information overload is real. Social media, email, texts, news—it's a constant stream of input. It can feel like there’s always something urgent demanding your attention. But giving yourself permission to unplug, even if just for a few hours or a day, can help restore balance. Use that time to breathe, to reflect, or to simply be present in the moment. Your mind will thank you.

Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness can be an incredibly helpful tool when it comes to creating spaciousness. Instead of rushing through your day on autopilot, take a few moments to pause and check in with yourself. How are you feeling? What do you need right now? By being present, you create space for clarity and understanding, which ultimately allows you to make more intentional choices moving forward.

Spaciousness is not about doing everything “right” or creating a perfect, stress-free life. It’s about choosing to prioritize what fills you up and makes you feel whole, rather than getting stuck in the endless cycle of trying to do it all.

Remember: You are allowed to create space in your life. You are allowed to say no. You are allowed to take care of yourself. By making room for what matters, you make room for you—and that’s the most spacious thing you can do.

Wishing you a week full of freedom, clarity, and room to breathe.
