Trafficking 101 Webinar with Refuge for Women Chicago | March 3, 2022

Did you know, of the estimated 100,000-200,000 people trafficked in America every year, 16,000-25,000 of those are in the greater Chicagoland area?

This quiet crisis is happening in our backyards every single day.

And the abuse must stop.

In an effort to bring awareness and empowerment to our community, MDW is hosting Meredith Hodge, Executive Director of Refuge for Women Chicago to expand our knowledge about sexual exploitation in our cities and how we can work together to stop further trauma towards women and children in this abusive industry.

What to expect during this hour-long webinar:

  • Myths of sex trafficking

  • Characteristics of people who are most vulnerable

  • Reasons why trafficked women stay with abusers

  • How you can help spread awareness to stop the cycle of abuse

Chicagoland-specific stats:

- 15 - the average age of ⅓ of Chicagoland victims trafficked

- 62% of victims are trafficked by age 18

So, who should attend?

Everyone! Teachers, parents, health care providers, business owners, therapists, law enforcement officers, first responders - anyone who comes into contact with individuals who are vulnerable.
