Mujeres y Amor Propio: A Transformative Event for the Latino Community

On March 8, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m., Monarca Salon Space in Elgin, Illinois, will host Mujeres y Amor Propio, an empowering and transformative event designed to uplift the Latino community of Fox Valley. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an evening dedicated to self-love, healing, and personal growth.

At its core, Mujeres y Amor Propio aims to break generational cycles, establish personal boundaries, and strengthen self-identity through engaging, hands-on workshops and interactive sessions. The event will provide a safe and nurturing space where women—mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends—can come together to share experiences, gain valuable insights, and build lasting connections.

Breaking Barriers and Empowering Women

A key component of the event is addressing the stigma surrounding therapy within the Latino community. With the guidance of Geneva therapist Dennise Demitrio, clinical psychology student at Roosevelt University Alondra Dorado, and social worker Dulce Intud, Care Manager at Greater Family Care in Hoffman Estates, participants will be led through discussions and practical exercises that emphasize the importance of mental well-being and self-discovery.

Karina Rodriguez, hairstylist and salon owner located inside Monarca Salon Space, envisioned this event as a way to merge beauty and healing. Her personal journey with self-love, which began when she started therapy at 18, fueled her passion for creating a deeper impact beyond the salon chair.

"I’ve always known that my purpose goes beyond just doing hair. As a hairstylist, I have the privilege of helping women feel confident and beautiful, but I’ve always wanted to create a deeper impact," shares Rodriguez.

"My journey with self-love began when I started therapy at 18, and it completely changed my life. It taught me what it truly means to love and value myself, and once I experienced that transformation, I knew I wanted others to feel it too."

More Than Just Beauty—A Space for Healing

Rodriguez’s mission is to create a space where both hairstylists and clients can explore self-love beyond outward beauty. She believes that true empowerment stems from self-acceptance and connection.

"This industry is about more than just outward appearances; it’s about connection, empowerment, and helping women recognize their worth from the inside out. My goal is to create a space where we can support, uplift, and inspire one another on a journey toward true self-acceptance and confidence."

Join the Movement

Mujeres y Amor Propio is more than an event—it’s a movement that encourages women to take charge of their mental well-being, embrace their personal power, and cultivate a community of support. Through hands-on workshops and expert-led discussions, attendees will leave feeling empowered, enlightened, and equipped with practical tools to navigate their personal journeys.

Don’t miss this opportunity to invest in yourself and be part of a powerful evening of growth and transformation.
