Kane County Business Owners Gifting Taylor Swift Tickets for the Holiday

Meg and Mike Whitted, Kane County residents, small business owners, and parents of seven children, felt the burn of attempting to land Taylor Swift's “The Eras Tour” tickets for their only daughter during the Ticketmaster debacle last month.

With only thousands of tickets available and millions of fans, it was inevitable that many “Swifties” would not be seeing Swift during her upcoming 2023 tour.

“The demand made it unreachable for everyday people to purchase tickets,” explained Whitted of her hours-long wrestling match with the Ticketmaster site. “Once I actually got to the purchasing page, the system wouldn’t allow me to purchase the tickets and now the tickets cost more than five times their face value.”

Because of their own large family, the Whitteds understand how challenging it is to afford perks and presents, so they like to provide experiences for their children as gifts. Talk of how people are willing to pay so much for tickets, and the fact that so many young fans are missing out, prompted them to shake off their own frustration and gift two tickets to random fans.

“Taylor Swift fans are fun and full of so much positive energy,” said Whitted. “And that’s contagious! After my husband and I talked, we wanted to pass along an experience to a pair of fans who could not get access to tickets.”

The Whitteds have big hearts for serving their community, and especially for bringing joy to women who are struggling. Five years ago, Whitted had the idea to brighten a few local women's days with a simple surprise: fresh flowers and a card to let them know that someone is thinking of them and they are loved. What started out as a kind gesture of support has grown into a program that includes collecting community nominations, teaming with local floral businesses, assembling a team of volunteers, and surprising over 175 women with flowers in 2022.

The Whitteds also supports Living Well Cancer Resource Center in Geneva, Illinois, and CASA Kane County which advocates for abused and neglected children within the Juvenile Court system.
